MediHome shares the vision of the
acute trust of the future being a "hospital without walls",
delivering services where they are most appropriately delivered
and getting the best value possible from its assets.
MediHome has a well-developed approach
for implementing and delivering a home care service for both
medical and surgical patients.
Our model of care offers a
variety of benefits to the acute trust.
-
Subject to a minimum number of beds
to support the cost of a locally based MediHome Nurse manager,
we operate a "virtual ward" in the community at a cost
that matches or beats the marginal costs for the operation of a
conventional ward, helping the acute trust operate within HRG
tariffs and cost-effectively allowing the hospital to
reconfigure its services.
Academic research points to home
nursing reducing the length of overall patient episodes as
patients mobilise earlier following surgery or illness and are
less exposed to cross-infection, helping trusts meet length of
stay targets.
With the advent of patient choice for elective referrals, the MediHome
service also improves a trust's "marketing proposition" to
patients and prepares it for an increasingly competitive future.
