Our History
MediHome started caring for patients in 2003 following
extensive work to tailor our services to the particular needs of
patients. In May 2006 we treated our 1,000th patient.

Most of the patients treated in the early years were private
patients. The company also cared for patients being treated
under contracts by the NHS placed with private hospital groups
and directly to the NHS as part of pilot trials at Imperial
College.

During 2006 MediHome started treating NHS patients in larger
numbers using its "virtual ward" model with NHS hospitals and
PCT's, and winning work with private sector companies caring
for NHS patients under the ISTC programme.

MediHome started out caring for patients following elective
surgery. MediHome's innovative approach, caring for a patient

at home following a ground breaking fast-track surgery

operation undertaken by leading surgeon Professor Sir Ara
Darzi, featured in the NHS Modernisation Board Report in 2004.

Having proven the operational model with elective surgery,
MediHome has extended the service to include emergency care
for patients including admission avoidance schemes. The
service now also provides GP's, community matrons and A&E
doctors with an alternative to an impatient referral for patients
whose principal need is for nursing care.

More recently, the NHS Institute for Innovation has
commissioned the production of two videos to illustrate
innovation in practice in the NHS. During May, Conerstone's
film crew visited MediHome's office in Slough, Hounslow PCT,
West Middlesex Univerity Hospital, Royal National Orthopaedic
Hospital, Stanmore and the homes of patients in Hounslow and
Harrow to interview MediHome managers, the directors and
staff from RNOH Stanmore and Hounslow PCT, and film
MediHome nurses at work visiting patients from these two
clients.

In  May 2007, the Commission for Social Care (CSCI)
published the outcome of a short notice inspection visit
undertaken on 23 April to assess whether our services meet
their standards and the needs of the patients who use them.
We received an overall organisational rating of 'Excellent' and
an individual rating of 'Excellent' against all 5 categories
measured:
User Focused Services Personal Care
