MediHome extended its services in
2005 to include home care following an emergency admission to
hospital. The reasons for an emergency admissions include
emergency surgery or an illness or infection. Once stable
following the emergency operation or the most acute stage of the
illness, many patients are on a clear path to recovery and will
recover faster and in more comfort at home rather than in
hospital.
The services provided by MediHome
Nurses for patients following an emergency admission are
essentially the same as those for patients who have had a planned
operation.
The principal difference is that
an assessment of whether the patient's home circumstances are
suitable for nursing care to be provided at home can only be
undertaken after the admission to hospital, which can result in a
slight delay in the transfer home while appropriate checks are
made and any preparations (such as provision of special equipment)
are arranged.
