Acute home healthcare following a planned operation

Many patients go home within a few days of even the most major operation. Some return home the day after their operation, or even on the same day. In such cases, our nursing, physiotherapy and care assistant input may need to be intensive, with up to four visits a day required immediately after a patient returns home.

To determine when the patient should be able to go home, MediHome nurses undertake a comprehensive assessment of their home circumstances in advance of a planned operation.

Our nurses are very practised at caring for patients following planned operations. They are fully trained to provide continued support to help manage acute pain, administer intravenous medications, tend to wound drains, change dressings, and remove sutures and clips. They visit their patient regularly throughout the recovery period, attending to medical needs and providing feedback to the doctor.
