Mr Y had suffered
severe reflux for many years but was otherwise in good health. He
underwent a Laparoscopic Fundoplication and six hours after the
operation he was discharged into the care of MediHome.
Over the following
36 hours MediHome nurses administered non-opioid and opioid
analgesics, then administered IV fluids (following post-discharge
discussion with the consultant about the nurse’s concerns at the
patient’s inadequate oral fluid intake).
In addition to full
post-operative care, the nurses gave telephone advice overnight
when the patient called to ask a question about which pain killers
to take. MediHome care ceased once the patient felt sufficiently
comfortable for opiate analgesics and IV fluids to be stopped.
NB The following case studies
illustrate how a variety of patients have benefited from care by MediHome
Nurses. These case studies are
based on real situations and refer to actual services provided by MediHome
but the precise details have been modified to protect the identity of individual patients.
